The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces announced on Wednesday the launch of a joint security operation in the Al-Mu'tasim area south of Tikrit, the center of Salah al-Din province, north of Baghdad. They explained in a statement that the Salah al-Din Operations Command of the Popular Mobilization Forces, the third battalion, federal police brigade 3, and Salah al-Din emergency units executed a security operation in the Al-Mu'tasim area south of Tikrit on Wednesday.
The statement added that "the operation began in the morning to inspect and clear the Huweija Al-Majmou and Huweija Al-Sahiyiya areas in the Al-Mu'tasim sector south of Tikrit, as well as to survey and clear the islands and Huweijas that are considered difficult terrain."
The objective of the operation is to "secure the areas and protect civilians and security sectors to prevent them from being exploited by terrorists."
