Emergency Message: The Ocean Swallows a Nation

Simon Kofe, the Foreign Minister of Tuvalu, an island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, responded to climate change deniers by highlighting how his country is sinking beneath the water. He delivered a speech directed at the United Nations Climate Change Summit while standing in ocean water.

Kofe pointed out that global warming has been proven by numerous studies conducted by scientists, emphasizing that it will be challenging for climate science deniers to explain the ongoing changes. He stressed the need to visually demonstrate how the landscape is changing due to climate change through videos and images.

The Foreign Minister cited a location in Tuvalu where he recorded his message for the UN, noting that reinforced concrete placed there by Americans during World War II is now submerged underwater at a depth of about 20 centimeters.

He remarked that there is no one in Tuvalu who does not believe in global warming, stating, "You know, when you live on a small island and see how it has been eroded by water over the years, it is very hard to deny the reality of climate change." He also expressed his willingness to welcome tourists to Tuvalu to raise awareness about the climate issues faced by the local population.
