Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi, announced that Qatar has signed agreements with Egypt for the supply of fuel and essential construction materials for the benefit of the Gaza Strip. The announcement came during the ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee dedicated to coordinating international assistance for the Palestinian people, held in the Norwegian capital Oslo, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).
Since the agreements overseen by Egypt and Qatar between Hamas and Israel, the latter allows for the entry of 30 million dollars in Qatari aid to Gaza, which directly enters through Ben Gurion Airport. The funds are distributed as follows: 10 million dollars for purchasing fuel for the power plant, 10 million dollars to support infrastructure projects in the sector, and 10 million dollars provided as assistance for 100,000 poor families in the region.
Since 2018, Hamas has overseen the entire process of distributing the funds in Gaza and has not allowed the Palestinian Authority to intervene in this matter. For about five months now, Israel has been preventing the entry of Qatari funds that used to reach Gaza via bags through Ben Gurion Airport for direct transfer to the sector. Israel has besieged Gaza, home to approximately two million Palestinians, since 2006, when Hamas won the Palestinian legislative elections.
