The "Daraa al-Balad" ceasefire and weapons surrender agreement in southern Syria entered into effect this Wednesday morning. The security and military committee, along with dignitaries from the city of Daraa, reached an agreement aimed at establishing a peaceful resolution as part of a roadmap to end the crisis in Daraa. The security committee and the Russian delegation agreed to implement the terms of the agreement starting today.
The new agreement includes a ceasefire, settlements for wanted individuals, weapons surrender, and the displacement of those unwilling to carry out the settlement, in addition to allowing Russian military police to enter Daraa al-Balad. It was also agreed to set up three joint security checkpoints between the military security forces and the 8th Brigade of the 5th Corps within the neighborhoods of Daraa al-Balad.
Simultaneously with the agreement, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that besieged neighborhoods of Daraa al-Balad were hit by over 50 surface-to-surface missiles. It noted that fierce battles are taking place between government forces and armed groups in the area, as the Fourth Division forces attempt to storm Daraa al-Balad, supported by allied militias.
