Egypt: Explosion of Gas Cylinders on a Highway

Dozens of gas cylinders exploded on the Cairo-Ismailia Desert Road in Egypt on Friday afternoon, following the overturning of a truck carrying approximately 250 cylinders.

Sky News reported from security sources that the incident occurred in front of the toll booth at the entrance of the city of Ismailia, where the truck driver's control was lost due to a tire explosion, leading to the gas cylinders exploding and a fire breaking out without any human injuries. Traffic was halted on the road, and fire and ambulance vehicles were dispatched to the scene, along with traffic personnel to clear the debris and prevent congestion. They dealt with the incident until the fire was extinguished and the cylinders were cooled. Authorities reopened the Cairo-Ismailia Desert Road for traffic, and the driver, who suffered a broken left arm, was detained.
