Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has announced the addition of 3D images to Instagram Stories and direct messages, as well as an update to profile pictures on Facebook and Messenger. People in the United States, Canada, and Mexico can represent themselves as their virtual selves in stickers, posts, and profile pictures across Meta platforms, including Quest VR. The new avatars include new facial shapes and assistive devices such as cochlear implants, over-the-ear hearing aids in various colors, and wheelchairs to be more inclusive for users with disabilities. The company is also working on enhancing the appearance of avatars in Instagram by adjusting certain facial shapes to make them look more realistic. The company states that it plans to continue adding more elements to the avatar editor.
