The UAE Ministry of Interior, represented by the Federal Traffic Council, has launched the third unified traffic awareness campaign for 2021 under the slogan "Safe Summer Traffic." This initiative is part of the traffic sector's efforts to improve road safety, achieve the highest levels of traffic safety, and raise community awareness about the damages caused by traffic accidents, including fatalities, injuries, and material and moral damages. The campaign will continue throughout the summer vacation.
Lieutenant General Engineer Consultant Mohammad Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police and Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council, emphasized that the campaign embodies the Ministry of Interior's strategy to make roads safer, reflecting the police leadership's vision to achieve the highest levels of traffic safety for all road users. The campaign aims to enhance traffic awareness about the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, ensuring tire safety, and brake functionality to protect drivers and road users, especially since the extreme summer heat negatively impacts vehicle and tire performance, necessitating adherence to maintenance and inspection schedules, especially before drivers embark on long trips.
He stated that the campaign is part of a series of major initiatives by the Ministry of Interior at the national level aimed at protecting road users from traffic accidents and taking precautions related to vehicle safety and regular maintenance. This inspired the idea behind the "Safe Summer Traffic" slogan, coinciding with the start of the summer vacation, which requires taking many precautions related to vehicle safety and tires and adhering to the permissible load limits on the vehicle's roof, which should not exceed 60 centimeters in height. Overloading can affect the vehicle's balance and make it difficult to control.
He pointed out that traffic accidents remain a pressing concern for officials in traffic and patrol departments across the country due to their detrimental effects leading to fatalities, injuries, social repercussions, and significant material losses in lives and property, costing the state substantial amounts.
He added that the campaign will be implemented in cooperation and coordination with traffic departments and patrols nationwide, along with several concerned parties in traffic safety from both the public and private sectors to unify and support local efforts. The goal is to reach a broad segment of the community through various media outlets, including print, audio, and visual, as well as online platforms and advertisements, and to organize discussion sessions about the campaign and its accompanying traffic culture and values.
He urged drivers and road users to adhere to traffic rules and regulations to avoid risks of traffic accidents and the resulting injuries and losses to lives and property, noting that compliance with the law contributes to ensuring their safety and the safety of others.
