On Friday, the United States announced a financial reward of five million dollars for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of Aureliano Guzmán Loera, brother of the famous Mexican drug dealer "El Chapo," and three other fugitives accused of drug trafficking. The U.S. Department of State stated that Guzmán Loera is facing charges in U.S. courts along with brothers Roberto Salguero Nevárez, José Salguero Nevárez, and Heriberto Salguero Nevárez for international drug trafficking. U.S. courts have sentenced his brother Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, the former leader of the Sinaloa cartel, to life in prison. Sinaloa state (northwest Mexico) has long been a hub for drug smuggling into the United States. The four wanted individuals are being pursued under an indictment issued by the U.S. Department of Justice for trafficking fentanyl, a drug responsible for thousands of overdose deaths annually in the United States. The State Department clarified that the reward reaches five million dollars for each of the four fugitives. El Chapo (64 years old) was sentenced in the United States in July 2019 to life imprisonment. This drug baron, considered one of the most powerful in his field until his extradition from Mexico to the United States in 2017, is currently serving his life sentence in a high-security prison in Colorado.
