Ronaldo Sets Several Records in the Champions League

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo achieved a new record during Manchester United's match against Spanish host Villarreal today, Tuesday, in the sixth round of the Champions League. Ronaldo scored the opening goal for the "Red Devils" in the 78th minute with a shot from just outside the penalty area.

The Portuguese superstar has now scored in five consecutive matches for Manchester United in the Champions League this season, becoming the first player to achieve this feat for an English team in a single season in the Champions League or the Europa League, with three goals in the last 15 minutes of games. This is the highest number of goals scored by a player in a single season in the competition (excluding extra time), according to the global football statistics network "Opta."

Cristiano Ronaldo, the all-time top scorer in the Champions League, has now increased his tally to 140 goals in 181 matches. The seasoned 36-year-old forward has reached his 799th career goal in official matches for the clubs he has represented and his national team, making him the highest goalscorer in football history.
