Russia Unveils the Fifth Generation Fighter

A source in the Russian aircraft industry revealed today that the Russian fifth-generation fighter "Checkmate" will be showcased for the first time at the Dubai Airshow 2021, scheduled from November 14 to 18. The source stated, "Checkmate has attracted significant attention abroad, and the Dubai Airshow is an excellent platform to present the aircraft to a wide array of potential partners. A closed presentation will be held for the delegations attending the exhibition, along with an open presentation for visitors and media."

The fighter was first showcased at the International Aviation and Space Salon "MAKS-2021," and it is produced by the company "Rostec." The company's CEO, Sergey Chemezov, previously stated that the new lightweight Russian fighter "Checkmate" is expected to be operational between 2026 and 2027. He indicated that the cost of "Checkmate" will range from 25 to 30 million dollars, noting that the new lightweight Russian fighter will be equipped with both guided and unguided missiles, in addition to aerial bombs.

It is known that the maximum combat load of the lightweight fighter "Checkmate" is 7,400 kg, with a maximum speed of 1.8-2 Mach. It is the first Russian lightweight multi-role fifth-generation fighter with a single engine, developed by Sukhoi.
