Gulf Cooperation Council Demands Official Apology from Lebanese Foreign Minister

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Nayef Falah Al-Hajraf, demanded on Tuesday that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in the caretaker government of Lebanon, Charbel Wehbe, provide an "official apology" to the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and their peoples due to his "completely unacceptable insults." Nayef Al-Hajraf expressed the "rejection and condemnation" of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states regarding statements made by the Lebanese Foreign Minister during a television interview, which included "shameful insults against the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and their peoples, as well as insults against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."

Al-Hajraf affirmed the "firm and steadfast positions" adopted by the Gulf Cooperation Council member states in support of the brotherly Lebanese people, which history attests to, aimed at ensuring Lebanon's safety, stability, and security. He also noted that those "statements contradict basic diplomatic norms and are inconsistent with the historical relations between the Council countries and Lebanon."
