Tragedy in Australia: Winds Kill 4 Children at School Playground

Four children were killed and others injured on Thursday after they fell from a bouncy castle due to strong winds at a school in Tasmania, Australia. The incident occurred while the school was holding an end-of-year celebration. Darren Hine, Tasmania's Police Commissioner, stated that those who lost their lives included two boys and two girls in sixth grade, making them around the ages of ten or eleven. Five children were transported to the hospital, four of whom are in critical condition.

Footage aired by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation showed police at the scene as paramedics provided first aid to the victims. The Premier of Tasmania, Peter Gutwein, described the incident as “simply unimaginable” and expressed his confidence in the community’s strength and compassion to support one another. Additionally, Debbie Williams, Tasmania's Police Chief, told reporters, “Many children fell from the bouncy castle. It seems they may have fallen from a height of about 10 meters,” adding, “This is a very tragic event, and our hearts are with the families, the broader school community, and our first responders.”
