The chief epidemiologist in the United States, Dr. Anthony Fauci, stated that analysis of "data coming from Israel confirms that the third booster dose of COVID-19 vaccines is important for all adults." In his conversation on "The Daily" podcast for The New York Times, Fauci mentioned that the booster dose will be "important for all residents of the United States," and it will become essential in the fight against COVID-19 and its variants. He noted that vaccination data in Israel reflects the importance of the booster, especially for those who received vaccines six months or more ago.
Fauci emphasized that receiving the third dose is not a "luxury" but a fundamental aspect of combating the COVID-19 pandemic. He pointed out the importance of continuing to vaccinate the U.S. population and providing booster doses to mitigate waves of COVID-19 variants. He added, "If you look at Israel, which has always been about a month ahead of the U.S. in responding to the dynamics of the COVID-19 outbreak, we find that the data reflects a decline in immunity about six months after vaccination."
Regarding the global COVID-19 toll, Fauci believes it is better to make the third dose available to all vaccinated individuals to save millions of lives. Currently, the United States has approved the third booster dose for those aged 65 or older, those with chronic medical conditions, and healthcare workers.
COVID-19 has caused the death of more than 5 million people worldwide since the World Health Organization office in China reported the outbreak at the end of December 2019, according to a count by Agence France-Presse. The United States is the country most affected in terms of deaths, with around 760,000 fatalities, followed by Brazil with 610,000, India with 463,000, Mexico with 291,000, and Russia with 253,000. The World Health Organization, taking into account excess mortality directly or indirectly linked to COVID-19, estimates that the pandemic's toll could be two to three times higher than the officially reported figures.
