The Somali region administration in Ethiopia accused militias from the neighboring Afar region on Tuesday of killing hundreds of civilians in an attack. Ali Bidil, a spokesman for the region's administration, told Reuters that armed militias from the Afar region committed a "massacre" on Saturday in an area known as Gdadamaito, also referred to as Jabraiysa, which is one of several disputed areas along the border between the Somali and Afar regions. Senior officials from the Somali region administration confirmed the attack but did not provide a specific number of casualties. Ahmed Klawita, a spokesman for the Afar region, did not respond to a request for comment. Reuters was unable to independently verify the details of the attack. An official stated that the government sent medical teams to the area to assist the "large number" of injured.
