Following the conclusion of the annual assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), attended by over 2,000 participants from member countries and partners, the majority of agency members approved the establishment of a global forum for developing visions related to the energy transition, relying on the agency's expertise and mobilizing forces to ensure effective recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.
Francesco La Camera, the Director-General of IRENA, stated that this year's meeting demonstrated that the energy transition has become a top priority on the global agenda. Our discussions regarding recovery from the pandemic highlighted the need to strengthen international cooperation and take action on energy transition efforts, with this year playing a crucial role in enhancing our collective ability to bring about lasting change. The forum will allow participation from IRENA's 163 member countries and 21 countries seeking to join, and it will be chaired by the President of the IRENA Assembly, convening at least once before each assembly meeting.
