Only 9 out of the 27 countries in the European Union have submitted their national plans for the distribution of recovery grants and loans, amounting to billions of dollars, by the unofficial deadline on Friday. Last year, the European Union established a €750 billion ($907 billion) recovery package to stimulate the economies of the bloc affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring its member states to outline how they intend to utilize the funds, under specific conditions. For instance, countries must allocate at least 37% of their funds to support environmental purposes and 20% to digitalization. The European Commission reported that by Friday evening, only France, Greece, Portugal, Slovakia, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Latvia, and Luxembourg had submitted their plans. Spokesperson Marta Wyczorek stated that this is merely a "guidance date," emphasizing that "it is really up to the member states to decide when they are ready to submit their plans."
