A recent study revealed that one of the main symptoms of the Omicron variant affects men and women differently. According to the British newspaper "The Sun," fatigue is a prominent symptom of various strains of the COVID-19 virus, but new research has shown that this symptom is more prevalent in women infected with Omicron.
The American company "Web MD" conducted a survey asking a sample of respondents how often they felt fatigued from December 23 to January 4. One-third of men reported experiencing fatigue during this period for various reasons, while 40% of women reported suffering from severe fatigue due to COVID-19.
In this context, infectious disease expert Sachin Nagrani stated, "Fatigue can be an early sign of COVID-19 infection, and it can also result from other factors, such as mental or physical stress." Angelique Coetzee, chair of the South African Medical Association, noted that one of the main symptoms of Omicron is fatigue, body aches, and headaches.
The study indicated a need to explain why the symptom of fatigue affects women infected with the new variant more significantly.
