Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed the organizational preparations for the next round of the Constitutional Discussion Committee during a phone call today with the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated in a communiqué today that the call addressed issues related to organizing and holding the fifth round of the Constitutional Discussion Committee in Geneva from January 25 to January 29, emphasizing the importance of continuing comprehensive Syrian-Syrian dialogue with the assistance of the United Nations. The statement clarified that the discussions also highlighted the necessity to move forward in finding a solution to the crisis in Syria based on UN Security Council Resolution 2254, noting that both parties expressed their readiness for further coordination of efforts to create a constructive atmosphere in the talks. The fourth round of meetings of the Constitutional Discussion Committee concluded its work in Geneva on the fourth of last month, where the discussions covered several topics, including national principles, the issue of refugee return, rejection of any separatist plan for Syrian territory, in addition to the humanitarian situation and the urgent need for its resolution.
