Video: Hundreds of Afghans Rush to Airport Fleeing Taliban as U.S. Forces Fire to Deter Them

U.S. forces fired shots to disperse Afghan citizens at Kabul airport today, Monday, in an attempt to prevent them from rushing towards the runway to board military planes fleeing from the Taliban. Hundreds of Afghans gathered at the airport in a bid to leave the country after Taliban militants entered the capital, Kabul, yesterday, Sunday. U.S. soldiers are responsible for the airport in order to assist with the evacuation of American embassy staff and other civilians. An American official stated that "U.S. forces fired shots in the air at Hamid Karzai International Airport in the capital, Kabul, to prevent hundreds of civilians from reaching the aircraft runway."
