The media office at the Presidency issued a statement today confirming that President Aoun did not request a blocking third in the upcoming government formation.
The statement added that MP Gibran Bassil has not been involved in the government formation process at all, noting that Hezbollah does not intervene in any decision of the President, including the formation process. The statement clarified that the constitution grants the President the right to approve the entire government lineup before signing it. It concluded by stating that the President cannot repeatedly call on the Prime Minister-designate to come to Baabda.
The formation of the government in Lebanon has been stalled since the political crisis intensified following the Beirut port explosion on August 4, which led the current caretaker government, headed by Hassan Diab, to resign.
