The Lebanese Parliament has passed a law that paves the way for the government to sign agreements for the importation of vaccines to protect against the coronavirus.
The law protects Pfizer and BioNTech, as well as any other company supplying vaccines to Lebanon, from product liability claims for two years. Lebanon is currently under a three-week lockdown that ends on February 1, with a strict round-the-clock curfew until January 25. Health Minister of the caretaker government, Hamad Hassan, stated that the ministry has reserved approximately two million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, covering 20% of the country's citizens; however, the government has not yet announced the start date for the vaccination program. Hassan expressed gratitude to Parliament on Twitter for passing the law, noting that Lebanon has recorded 237,132 cases and 1,781 deaths since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic as of yesterday, Thursday.
