Tesla has made the decision to cancel video games in its electric vehicles. This was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States on Thursday, according to The Verge.
The agency stated in a statement that Tesla informed them it would change the feature, emphasizing that "vehicle safety laws prohibit manufacturers from selling vehicles with defects that pose unreasonable safety risks, including technologies that divert drivers' attention from safe driving".
The agency mentioned that video games in Tesla vehicles will be eliminated in an upcoming update for the "Passenger Play" feature. Tesla's decision to cancel the practice of gaming in its cars comes after the NHTSA announced it was conducting an investigation into the feature, which includes assessing over half a million vehicles. Tesla previously allowed a button on its internal screen to confirm that the participating player was a "passenger" in order to permit gameplay. However, the executive director of the Center for Auto Safety stated that "nothing really prevents the driver from pressing the button and starting to play while driving".
Tesla has previously been under investigation regarding its "Autopilot" feature after collisions involving its vehicles and parked emergency vehicles occurred.
