Director Causes the Death of a Jordanian Seamstress

A Jordanian seamstress has died due to severe emotional distress after being insulted, abused, and yelled at by her manager. Hamda, the seamstress working in a sewing workshop in the Azraq area, experienced an intense episode of anger and sadness while on the job, resulting in a rupture of an avascular malformation that caused significant bleeding. This incident occurred following her manager's insult and threats regarding her livelihood, prompting her to express her feelings in protest against the violence she faced.

Hamda's case has reached the office of the Public Prosecutor in Azraq, which has begun an investigation into the complaint against those responsible for her death. Former judge at the Grand Criminal Court, lawyer Nael Al-Amoosh, submitted a complaint based on medical reports, the autopsy report, eyewitness statements, and the deceased's family's accounts.

Al-Amoosh asserted that Hamda's case should be highlighted and treated as a public issue, as it reflects the violence within institutions and profit-making companies that employ people from impoverished backgrounds seeking to meet their needs through their professions for a decent living.

According to a report from Roya news agency, a complaint has been filed by the deceased's husband, her three minor children, alongside her mother and brothers, against a company owned by foreign nationals of Asian nationality, where Hamda worked as a seamstress. The complaint addresses psychological and moral abuse and coercion leading to murder, citing Articles 326, 330, and 76 of the Jordanian Penal Code.

The complaint's facts indicate that the victim had been working for the defendants as a seamstress for approximately a year, stating that she had no prior health issues and was in good physical condition without any complaints of illness during her employment.

In the days leading up to her death, she faced psychological and moral pressures. On the morning of September 30, 2021, while performing her regular duties, she was subjected to pressure and psychological pain by seven individuals, who attempted to coerce her into either working or quitting. This led to an extreme emotional breakdown, causing her to cry violently and ultimately collapse in the workshop, resulting in a coma, as evidenced by surveillance footage and corroborated by medical reports.

Lawyer Al-Amoosh has called for an investigation into the seven defendants and to refer the complaint to the Public Prosecutor of the Grand Criminal Court according to jurisdiction.

In parallel, a forensic report (body examination) indicated that Hamda arrived at the health center deceased on September 30, 2021. The autopsy showed no signs of external injuries but revealed extensive bleeding beneath the cerebral arachnoid and an explosion of the avascular malformation, with a large amount of clotted blood surrounding the malformation. The cause of death was attributed to the bleeding under the cerebral arachnoid due to the rupture of the arterial malformation of the Circle of Willis.
