Renault and Stellantis Halt Car Production

French companies Renault and Stellantis have halted car production at several factories due to a shortage of chips used in engine management and driver assistance systems.

A spokesperson for Renault stated that the company will stop production at one site in France and two in Morocco and Romania for several days next week, without detailing the potential impact on production. According to Reuters, Stellantis, formed from the merger of the French group PSA and its American-Italian competitor Fiat Chrysler, announced a production cut at its plant in Melfi, Italy for next week, with 7,000 workers being put on unpaid leave.
