5 Symptoms Indicating Infection with Omicron Variant

Under the title "These Symptoms Indicate You Are Infected with the Omicron Variant," Al-Hurra reported that as the Omicron variant of COVID-19 spreads worldwide, many questions have arisen regarding the differences this variant carries compared to others. Dr. Angelique Coetzee, who was the first to discover the Omicron variant, stated that "most symptoms are mild or moderate," according to a report by The Hill.

The most prominent symptom found by doctors was a "scratchy throat," which differs from what patients typically report as a sore throat. Patients infected with Omicron did not report cough or loss of taste and smell. It was noted by patients that the symptoms are very similar to those accompanying "the common cold," according to a report by CNBC referencing a study conducted in the UK.

The five main symptoms accompanying infection with the Omicron variant include: runny nose, headache, fatigue, sneezing, and a scratchy throat. Health ministers from the G7 countries warned on Thursday that the Omicron variant of the coronavirus poses the "greatest current threat to global public health," emphasizing that tackling this threat requires "close cooperation." The ministers highlighted the importance of "booster vaccination campaigns," as well as the necessity for these campaigns to be accompanied by "regular testing." Since the pandemic began in late 2019, COVID-19 has claimed at least 5.3 million lives worldwide, according to a tally by Agence France-Presse.
