President Aoun: The Judiciary Must Deserve Its Independence, Not Beg for It

President Michel Aoun stated that he "swore alone an oath of loyalty to the constitution, the nation, and its laws." He emphasized the separation of powers and their cooperation, rather than one authority dominating another. President Aoun remarked: "I swore alone an oath of loyalty to the Lebanese nation's constitution and its laws. One of the pillars of our constitutional system is the separation between powers and their balance and cooperation, not the domination of one authority over another. The judiciary must deserve its independence, not beg for it, and it must be held accountable where necessary, rather than deflecting the responsibility for prosecution as a servitude to another authority or a refusal."
