Amid the spread of the new coronavirus and the rising number of infections across Lebanon, the former Secretary-General of the Union for Lebanon, Massoud Ashkar, has died after contracting the virus.
Official sources reported that Ashkar passed away on Monday morning after a battle with COVID-19, having been admitted to intensive care due to a deterioration in his health condition. The country is recording unprecedented numbers of coronavirus infections, while hospitals are unable to accommodate more patients. Meanwhile, a general lockdown continues amid growing fears of a complete collapse of the health sector.
