The Tunisian Ministry of Health announced on Friday that it recorded 205 COVID-19 deaths within 24 hours, the highest daily death toll since the outbreak began. The ministry also reported 6,787 new infections, raising concerns about the country’s ability to combat the pandemic amidst full intensive care units in hospitals and a shortage of oxygen supplies. Tunisia's vaccination campaign has faced significant slowdowns. The World Health Organization states that Tunisia's daily death toll is the highest in Africa and the Arab world. The total number of infections has surged to over 533,000, while the death toll has reached 17,200. Tunisian health authorities describe the situation as catastrophic. Conversely, the ministry recorded 5,145 recoveries from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recovered cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 424,786.
