Antoine Seif, the head of the Bread Industry Association in Lebanon, explained that the crisis is due to the shutdown of several mills and the holiday period arriving without sufficient stock for the bakeries.
In a statement to "Voice of Lebanon" radio, Seif said: "The wheat stock is not sufficient; some mills have enough stock for a week, while others have enough for just a few days. The bakeries are not operating at full production due to the lack of sufficient flour to produce bread." He added, "The minister promised us that quantities would arrive via ships; we hope they will arrive in time, that the funds will be allocated, and that they will undergo laboratory testing."
