The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture stated in a report that China has discovered its first case of highly pathogenic avian influenza this year. The first case was recorded following an outbreak of the avian influenza virus among wild birds in Qinghai Province in northwest China. Additionally, local authorities euthanized and disposed of 273 infected birds, and no cases were found in poultry. Despite the infection, global health bodies consider the risk to the general public low, as the spread of the virus among people requires close contact with an infected bird.
