A 26-year-old housewife in Egypt has filed for divorce from her 30-year-old husband, a worker at a shoe factory, in front of the Family Court in New Egypt, justifying her request by saying, "I feel embarrassed because he sits at home in his underwear." The wife recounted the details of her marriage: "We had a traditional marriage arranged by my father. After getting to know him, I found him educated, religious, and financially well-off, so I agreed to the engagement, which lasted about a year. After that, we set a wedding date and moved in together, but only for a period of less than two months," according to Masrawy.
The wife continued, "My husband didn’t consider my feelings of embarrassment; I wasn't yet used to seeing him in just his underwear." She discussed this situation with him, but he did not attempt to change his behavior. Instead, he remained the same and didn’t even notice that I was sitting alone in the room, which increased my discomfort. Eventually, I without feeling guilty asked him for a divorce due to my discomfort, but he refused, saying, 'Stay at your parents’ house for a while and think about it.'"
She added, "Indeed, I moved my belongings to my father's house because I didn’t want to return to our home, and he didn’t think to contact me, which made me not consider returning to him." She concluded, "After some thought, I resorted to the Family Court to file for divorce to get rid of my husband, and the case is still pending and has not yet been decided."
