The State of Qatar has signed a contract with Qatar Petroleum, which is the largest supplier of liquefied natural gas in the world, for the first phase of its North Field expansion project. This expansion is expected to raise Qatar's liquefied natural gas production to 110 million tons annually by 2026, with investments nearing 29 billion dollars.
The contract, which covers major engineering work onshore, procurement, and construction, was signed in parallel with a joint project between Chiyoda Corporation and Technip known as the East North Field. Saad Al-Kaabi, Qatar's Minister of State for Energy Affairs and CEO of Qatar Petroleum, stated in a press conference that production from this phase will begin by the fourth quarter of 2025 and will reach full capacity by late 2026 or early 2027.
