The White House Will Review the Agreement with the Taliban

A statement from the White House indicated that the United States will review the agreement made with the Taliban movement.

According to National Security Council spokesperson Emily Horne, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke with his Afghan counterpart, Hamdullah Mohib, and clarified the United States' intention to review the agreement. Horne noted that Washington specifically wants to verify that the Taliban "fulfills its commitments to sever ties with terrorist groups, reduce violence in Afghanistan, and engage in meaningful negotiations with the Afghan government and other partners." For its part, a negotiator from the Taliban told Reuters that the movement is waiting for the new U.S. administration and its policies regarding Afghanistan to see if it will respect the peace agreement. It is noteworthy that in February, U.S. and Afghan officials announced that the United States and its NATO allies would withdraw their forces from Afghanistan within 14 months, provided that the Taliban meets its obligations under the agreement signed in the Qatari capital, Doha.
