Visa and Mastercard announced that they will suspend their operations in Russia, joining a growing number of major American companies that have halted their activities in the country due to the military operations in Ukraine. Mastercard stated that "given the unprecedented nature of the current conflict and the turbulent economic environment," it has decided to "suspend our network services in Russia." For its part, Visa said it "will work with its customers and partners in Russia to stop all Visa transactions over the coming days."
