UEFA has announced the cancellation of the U19 European Championships for both men and women due to the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Romania was set to host the men's tournament starting June 30, and Belarus was to host the women's tournament starting July 21.
In a statement, UEFA said, "The Executive Committee made this decision based on the current travel restrictions faced by teams." The statement continued: "The member associations supported this decision, although we all feel regretful for not holding youth competitions this season. The health and safety of young players come first under the current circumstances."
It is worth mentioning that the Romanian capital Bucharest is one of 12 cities scheduled to host the delayed men's EURO 2020 tournament this summer, initially planned for 2020.
