Arrest of Senior Taliban Official Following Attack on Afghan Forces' Base

Afghan intelligence agencies have arrested a senior official in the Taliban amid escalating tensions as the scheduled withdrawal date of U.S. forces from the country approaches.

RT reported that the National Directorate of Security announced on its Twitter account today, Saturday, that special forces apprehended the Taliban leader known as Mohammed, also referred to as Haji Lala, who serves as the governor of Kabul within the movement's structure and has led its operations in several provinces. The report added that the arrest came after the Taliban claimed responsibility for a car bombing that targeted an Afghan forces site in Nangarhar province in the eastern part of the country, specifically in Sherzad district, this morning. Obaidullah Shinwari, deputy head of the provincial council in the area, stated that at least 14 security personnel were killed in the attack.
