The U.S. Navy announced on Sunday that it rescued two Iranian fishermen who had been stranded on a fishing vessel for eight days. The U.S. Central Command stated that a Navy ship rescued the two Iranian sailors on Saturday from their fishing boat, which had been adrift in the Gulf waters for eight days. It added that the cargo ship Charles Drew reached the fishing vessel and provided the fishermen with food, water, and medical care after a distress call was made in the morning. The men were then transferred to an Omani Coast Guard ship near the capital, Muscat, and reported to be in good health and spirits. The U.S. Navy regularly operates in the Gulf and has often accused Tehran of "provocative" activities, especially in the Strait of Hormuz, through which about one-fifth of the world's oil production passes. It is worth noting that the U.S. Fifth Fleet is based in Bahrain.
