Samir Geagea, the head of the Lebanese Forces party, renewed his call for President Michel Aoun and caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab to resign.
In a radio interview, Geagea questioned, "The basic question for the officials we are going through today, specifically President Michel Aoun, caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab, and the parliamentary majority, is whether they see or feel everything happening on the ground?" He added, "After all the bad things that have happened in the country, didn't the current officials feel the need to resign? Is there no one awash in their blood?" Geagea remarked, "How can officials accept to remain in positions of responsibility amid all the events and problems currently occurring? This can happen with the current ruling group, and I’m not here to ‘theorize’ but speaking after four and a half years."
Geagea considered that "the closest and shortest way out of the crisis is early parliamentary elections, alongside an international solution." He called on other MPs to resign from the parliament to head towards early parliamentary elections, asserting that with elections, the parliamentary majority will change and a new president and government will be elected.
He continued, "The solution is either the resignation of the parliamentary majority and the president or the resignation of the largest number of MPs and going to early elections."
Geagea added, "The popular movements on Tuesday evening are spontaneous and a natural outburst of anger due to the current conditions." He noted that "there are Lebanese Forces members among those who protested in the streets, as they are part of the society that is suffering, but accusations claiming that the Lebanese Forces are behind stirring the street have no basis in truth."
