The U.S. Space Forces Commander, John Raymond, stated that Russia has the capability to incapacitate or destroy American satellites from the ground or space. Without providing evidence, Raymond claimed that both Russia and China present a continuing threat to the United States by possessing weapons that can target American satellites in space. In an interview with the Washington Post, Raymond noted that space has now become a war zone akin to land and sea. He emphasized that the U.S. must do everything possible to prevent conflict in space, adding that space "should be safe for everyone." In March, Raymond had previously discussed the military capabilities of Russia and China, pointing out that both countries have laser systems with varying power levels capable of destroying space satellites from the ground. In response, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that U.S. concerns regarding Russian activity in space are unfounded, affirming that Russia is a peaceful country.
