The German Cancer Society stated that laryngeal cancer has several causes, most notably smoking and alcohol consumption, along with viruses and inhalation of harmful substances such as asbestos and arsenic, as well as genetic factors. The society explained that the symptoms of laryngeal cancer include a persistent hoarseness, chronic cough, an urgent need to clear the throat, throat congestion, the feeling of having a foreign body in the throat, difficulties swallowing, breathing difficulties, and shortness of breath. If diagnosed with laryngeal cancer, the patient may undergo radiation or chemotherapy. Some cases may require surgery to remove the larynx. To prevent laryngeal cancer, it is important to quit smoking and drinking alcohol. Additionally, a protective breathing mask should be worn if the nature of the work involves inhaling carcinogenic substances as mentioned earlier.
