Mother Defends Herself After Drowning Her Children with a Strange Justification

Under the title "Mother Reveals Details of Her Horrific Crime: I Drowned My Children to Protect Them," Sky News reported on an American mother from California defending the heinous crime she committed by drowning her three children, using a strange excuse.

In an interview at the Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility in Kern County, Laura Carrillo told KGET-TV that she drowned her three young children to protect them from their father's abuse amid a custody battle. She said, "I drowned them... I didn't want them to suffer any more harm... I promised them when they were born that I would protect them." She continued, "I hugged them and kissed them, and I was apologizing the whole time... I loved my children," according to the Associated Press.

Carrillo expressed, "I wish my children were alive, yes... Do I wish I hadn't had to do that? Yes. But I'd rather they not be tortured and abused regularly for the rest of their lives." The 30-year-old claims that her boyfriend, Eric Dention, sexually abused the children. Her children were found dead on Saturday in Los Angeles. Their grandmother discovered the bodies of 3-year-old Joana Denton Carrillo, her two-year-old brother Terry, and her six-month-old sister Sierra on Saturday in their apartment in the Reseda neighborhood of Los Angeles. Carrillo was arrested later that day in Tulare County.

In the interview, Carrillo mentioned that she drove north intending to drive off a cliff and kill herself, but the vehicle got stuck in a hole, and instead, she got into a car with some people who stopped to help her.
