Sawang Janpram, 102 Years Old, Sets a Running Record

Running 100 meters in 27.08 seconds may seem unremarkable, but it’s a different story when the runner is 102 years old. Thai athlete Sawang Janpram is known as the oldest runner in Southeast Asia. He has participated four times in Thailand's annual championship for professional athletes.

During the 26th edition of the championship held in Samut Songkhram province in the southwestern part of the country, he won all the gold medals in the 100-105 age category, surpassing all competitors in that age group.

When asked about the secret to his longevity, Sawang said, "Exercising has made me strong and healthy. Furthermore, exercise helps improve your appetite so you eat well too." Sawang usually walks daily with his 70-year-old daughter, Siripan, and does simple household chores like sweeping fallen leaves in the garden.

However, he increases his training before competitions, practicing twice a day for a week at a local track with his daughter. His training paid off, as his time in the 100-meter race this year was a personal best and a new record for his age category in Thailand.
