Once again, a surveillance camera has revealed a case of child harassment in Egypt, reminiscent of the Maadi incident that shook public opinion months ago. In the Faisal area of Al-Haram, Giza, south of Cairo, a man in his forties followed an 11-year-old girl until she entered the building where she lives with her family. He managed to lure her to the first floor to harass her for four minutes before the girl escaped and quickly informed her father of what had happened.
Immediately, the father searched for the harasser, but he had disappeared. After reviewing surveillance camera footage, his identity was established, and security forces were able to apprehend him. Investigations revealed the suspect's identity as a recent resident of the area who works as a women's tailor. He is married and has children.
The prosecution listened to the victim's family's statements and confronted them with the suspect, who was identified by the girl, while he denied the incident. However, after being confronted with the surveillance footage, he admitted to committing the crime. The public prosecution has ordered his detention for four days pending investigations.
Previously, the Cairo Criminal Court sentenced the accused, Mohamed Gadwa, who harassed a child in Maadi, to a 10-year strict imprisonment. Egyptian security forces arrested the suspect after he sexually harassed a young girl inside a building entrance, as revealed by a surveillance video.
