Under the headline "Prince Harry Strikes Again... Palace Life is Boring and I Was Forced to Smile," Al Arabiya reported on a statement from Prince Harry, who said: "Life in the British royal family is like a mix between being in 'The Truman Show' and being in a zoo." With this shocking statement, the Duke of Sussex described life in the royal family in the United Kingdom. Harry likened his experience to that of the main character in "The Truman Show," who lives a monotonous life where the same scenarios repeat daily.
Prince Harry admitted that he realized in his twenties that he did not want the "royal job" or to be part of that "machine," after witnessing what that life did to his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, according to the British Telegraph.
He noted that he had "always felt different," and confirmed that he began therapy after a conversation with Meghan Markle, the former American actress and Duchess of Sussex. He criticized the way he was raised, vowing to "break the cycle of pain and suffering" that he does not want for his children, as he was "forced to smile and endure."
During a 90-minute interview with American actor Dax Shepard on his podcast, the duke described how he was told he needed help as a child, as he "always felt different," according to the Telegraph.
The duke, who stepped back from his royal duties last year, stated that he feels a much greater connection with people he has met in Africa and other continents than with those inside the palace walls.
It is worth noting that tensions erupted between Harry and Meghan on one side and the royal palace on the other after Meghan revealed in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that she had been thinking about suicide "regularly," describing herself as "trapped" after her driver's license, passport, and credit cards were taken away following her wedding.
