The British newspaper "Mirror" has revealed a significant surprise, confirming that Liverpool is set to sell their Senegalese forward Sadio Mane to meet Mohamed Salah's financial demands for extending his contract with the Reds. The report states that Liverpool's signing of Colombian Luis Diaz, who plays in the same position as Mane, could be a precursor to the Senegalese star's departure from the club.
Liverpool has reached an agreement with Portuguese club Porto to acquire winger Luis Diaz in a deal worth £37 million. The report emphasizes that Mane's contract with Liverpool expires in the summer of 2023, and discussions regarding a renewal have not yet begun. It stressed that if Mane's performance continues to decline compared to previous seasons, the club's management may consider selling him during the upcoming summer transfers to achieve a good financial return.
The report noted that Mane's situation at Liverpool differs from that of his Egyptian teammate Mohamed Salah, who is deemed indispensable. The English newspaper "The Athletic" indicated that Liverpool is also close to parting ways with Belgian Divock Origi and Japanese Takumi Minamino as part of the club's policy to save expenses for renewing Salah's contract.
It stated that Liverpool is nearing a compromise with Salah to extend his contract after the latter abandoned the idea of the large financial sum he initially requested weekly for the contract renewal. Salah currently earns a weekly salary of £200,000, while his agent had asked for an increase to £380,000 per week to sign the new deal.
