The artist Mohamed Henedy humorously commented on the performance of referee Bakary Gassama in the match between Egypt and Cameroon, after the first half. He posted a photo of the referee in a military outfit on his Twitter account, stating: "The referee probably thinks he's actually in a war... and he doesn't call fouls on any of our players as long as he sees them still alive."
Henedy also sarcastically referred to Samuel Eto'o's situation after the match, saying: "He's wondering what they'll do to him after wasting their money on spy planes, referees, and pickled vegetable buckets."
