Scientists Innovate Unique Drug for Treating Diabetes and Obesity

Professor Ivan Turinov, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, announced that clinical trials for a drug developed by researchers at Volgograd University to treat diabetes and obesity will begin in 2022. The professor notes that the clinical trials for the innovative drug, named "Dipearone," which is unmatched globally, will start this year, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

The drug helps normalize blood glucose levels, serving as a means to enhance the effectiveness of diabetes treatment, metabolic syndrome, and obesity. It can be utilized as an independent treatment for diabetes in its early stages.

The professor states, "This drug is unique and original in its class, and there is nothing like it in the world. This drug stimulates the production of incretins (gastrointestinal hormones). After eating, it stimulates the production of these hormones, which in turn promote insulin secretion, accelerating the transfer of sugar to tissues and maintaining normal blood sugar levels. When this mechanism is disrupted, as in type 2 diabetes, where incretin production does not provide the necessary insulin secretion, sugar remains in the blood."
