The Lebanese presidency stated on Thursday that the United States has decided to help Lebanon provide electricity as the country suffers from a fuel shortage. It added that the U.S. ambassador informed President Michel Aoun of the decision during a phone call on Thursday. The U.S. embassy in Lebanon has not yet commented. The plan will supply natural gas from Egypt to Jordan for electricity generation, which can then be transferred to Lebanon via Syria, in addition to facilitating the transfer of natural gas to Lebanon. The statement noted that negotiations are ongoing with the World Bank to finance the cost of the gas.
