Bkirki Fears Lebanon Will Remain "In the Refrigerator"

Bkirki Fears Lebanon Will Remain

The call by Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi for the election of a president two months before the end of the current president's term aims to avoid falling into a presidential vacuum, according to sources close to Bkirki. These sources indicated to "Al-Anbaa" online that "the compelling reasons that led Al-Rahi to demand the election of a president two months before the end of President Aoun's term stem from his fear that Lebanon might remain in the refrigerator beyond the current term, resulting in a vacancy." They anticipate that the election of a president will surprise everyone, followed by the formation of a government tasked with addressing the economic crisis from all its aspects. The sources noted that "the Vienna talks have ended irrevocably," mentioning that many changes could occur, the most significant being the election of a president who is not a proxy for Hezbollah, while also pointing out that "the names proposed for the presidency do not align with the requirements of the upcoming phase."
