Crash of Plane in Crowded Street in Haiti Claims 6 Lives

Officials in Haiti reported that a small plane crashed on a busy street in the capital, Port-au-Prince, yesterday, resulting in the deaths of at least 6 people, including the pilot. The Haitian Civil Aviation Authority indicated that the aircraft took off from Port-au-Prince Airport at 19:44 GMT and was headed to the city of Jacmel. They added that the plane experienced a malfunction and sent a distress signal at 20:04, according to Reuters. Prime Minister Ariel Henry expressed his condolences to the victims' families on Twitter, without specifying the number of deceased or injured. Jud Edward Pierre, the mayor of Carrefour where the plane crashed, confirmed that 6 people were killed. A government source reported that the pilot died after being transported to the hospital.
